About

Hello. I’m Laura and thank you for taking an interest in Indigo Orca.

I am a Hypnobirthing Instructor, A mindful Breastfeeding Practitioner and a Baby Massage Instructor and I am extremely passionate about all things pregnancy, birth and beyond.

This passion started shortly after my son was born. I feel inspired by my own experiences and I want to share the wonderful things that I learnt in order to empower and support expectant and new parents.

At Indigo Orca, my aim is to support expectant and new parents on their journey. To teach them the skills they need to have a calm and positive experience of pregnancy, birth and beyond. To support them in a safe and kind environment where they feel able to be open and honest and to ask any questions they may have. That is where the name Indigo Orca comes from…The colour Indigo (a variation of the colour blue!) represents the calm and relaxation that I will teach all my clients to practice daily throughout pregnancy, birth and beyond. Orca (or killer whale!) is a mammal that is strong, powerful, nurturing and part of a supportive pod (family/village). My aim is for all my clients to feel strong and empowered by my courses and to feel as though they are part of the Indigo Orca pod/family where they are supported and encouraged to believe in themselves.

I absolutely understand how you feel. I was terrified of birth. I was terrified that I would feel like birth was a medical procedure that was being performed on me rather than something that I was doing and something that I was in control of. After my 20-week scan, I decided to stop being scared and start doing something about this fear and that’s when I discovered Hypnobirthing and I am so grateful that I did. Not only did this discovery change my mindset and view of birth, it also gave me an in-depth education about all things pregnancy and birth and that’s where my passion for this subject began. Education is empowerment and that’s exactly how I felt; empowered and it is my mission for you to feel empowered too.

The idea of a positive and calm birth might seem impossible. After all, we’ve all spent our entire lives being told that birth is painful and traumatic. We have been taught from a young age that we should fear birth and that our bodies are not capable of giving birth without help from a medical team (which is strange because human beings have been around for about 200,000 years and it’s only been very recently that we’ve supposedly needed help to continue to human race!). So how on earth could Hypnobirthing help me to have a positive birth?!?! Head over to the Hypnobirthing page to find out more. I know, first hand, that the skills that you learn from this Hypnobirthing course can leave you feeling empowered and ready to handle anything that comes your way during birth.

Not only do I teach Hypnobirthing, but Mindful Breastfeeding is also a subject that I am extremely passionate about. It may seem silly to need to learn how to breastfeed. Surely you just put the baby on your nipple and voila you’re breastfeeding. Well as you may already know, many women struggle to breastfeed. Like with birth, we have lost the ability to trust that our bodies and to trust our babies to know what they are doing. The UK has one of the worst rates of breastfeeding in world. The World Health Organisation recommends that babies are exclusively breastfed for the first 6 months and then that breastmilk continues to be part of their diet until two years old and beyond. In the UK, by the age of 6 months, only 1% of babies are still being breastfed despite 80% of women intending to breastfeed. This is why being prepared for your breastfeeding journey is just as important as being prepared for birth. Knowing what to expect, how to achieve a good latch and understanding the physiology of breastfeeding is key to success. Not only will I teach you all of these things, but I will also be available to support you with your breastfeeding journey once the baby arrives.

Speaking of the arrival of your baby, that’s where Baby Massage comes in. This way you can share the calm and relaxing skills that you have previously learnt with your baby. Even if you haven’t completed a Hypnobirthing or Mindful Breastfeeding course with me, Baby Massage is a wonderful way to use calm and nurturing touch to bond with your baby. It can also help with your baby’s sleep, teething, digestion and growing pains. It is beneficial on so many different levels.

Here at Indigo Orca, I strongly believe that every woman deserves to have a calm and positive experience of birth, breastfeeding and early parenthood and I also believe that every baby deserves to be brought into this world in a calm and positive way and I believe that hypnobirthing, mindful breastfeeding and baby massage are the way to achieve that.
